One of the most inspiring artists - naw, THE most inspiring artist (for me) is Michael Whelan. His Fantasy art made me buy a lot of books - which I then really enjoyed reading.
 
For all you gamers, I can recommend Matrix Games which offer Steel Panthers World at War for free to download - caution, it's about 340 MB!
